Listen to the Word

I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more.  (Isaiah 43:25)

The promise of Isaiah 43:25 is astounding to us because when someone sins against us, we remember it all too well. I’m sure you remember the time someone talked about you behind your back, or forgot your birthday, or chose someone else over you. In fact, remembering the sins of others is one of our specialties. We love to keep score. We are the people of the grudge. We carry around a big sack full of offenses. We have an outstanding memory when it comes to other people’s sins. We remember their sins forevermore.

God is different. We have done things that are inexcusable, irreversible, intolerable. But God chooses to forgive and forget.

Live the Word

Think of someone you are having trouble forgiving for a past offense. Ask God to help you to be as graciously forgetful as he is.
