Listen to the Word
All who make idols are nothing, and the things they treasure are worthless. Those who would speak up for them are blind; they are ignorant, to their own shame. (Isaiah 44:9)
It wouldn’t make sense to treasure a low value item. Nobody frames a Kleenex and hangs it over the mantel. Nobody uses a safe deposit box to secure a nickel. Yet our Scripture bluntly declares that we have a tendency to cherish worthless things. God substitutes like money, achievement, and applause are not worth much in the scheme of things. We need to do a spiritual price check, and compare the value of the things we count on to satisfy us with the value of God.
Empty stuff can’t fill us. God alone can satisfy.
Live the Word
Ask God to remind you of his infinite worth, and to help you choose him over worthless God substitutes.
