Listen to the Word

As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food.”

Jesus replied, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.” (Matthew 14:15-16)

Jesus’ disciples demonstrate sound logic in the plan they present to Jesus: Large crowd + late hour + remote location = it is time to send everybody toward civilization so they can find a drive-thru that is still open. But Jesus has a different plan: “You give them something to eat.”

Of course, the disciples protest. How can they feed a crowd of 5000 when all they have is five loaves and two fish? Jesus then demonstrates that five loaves + two fish + Jesus = more than enough for a miraculous meal.

When we do what Jesus says (even when it sounds impossible), and when we put what we have in Jesus’ hands, we will be amazed at what he can do through us.

Live the Word

Do you face a challenge today that seems impossible? Place it in the hands of Jesus and see what he will do.
