Listen to the Word
For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them. (Matthew 18:20)
Did you go to church yesterday? If so, how many people were there? Jesus says we need to add one more to our attendance totals, because in addition to the visible folks in the pews and the people tuning in online, he was in our midst. Jesus is not just the subject matter of a gathering of Christians – he is an active participant. Church is not just something we do that is about Jesus – it is something we do with Jesus. It is a chance to interact with our Messiah.
Jesus’ promise in today’s Scripture doesn’t only apply to worship services. Anytime we gather in his name, he shows up. When you have a spiritual conversation over coffee with a couple of your buddies, you might as well pull up an extra chair, because Jesus is right there at the table. When you call a friend to tell them you are praying for them, there is Another on the line with you. When you and your family members participate in a project to serve someone else, Jesus is right there.
Any time we come together for Jesus’ sake, he wants in on it!
Live the Word
Each time you interact with another follower of Christ today, remind yourself that Jesus is there with you.
