Listen to the Word
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. (Colossians 3:12)
What are you wearing today? This week’s Scripture challenges us to assemble a new relational wardrobe. Colossians 3:12 identifies five things you are to put on in light of your identity as God’s beloved child - five qualities with which you must clothe yourself.
The Scripture calls you to clothe yourself with compassion. The Greek word behind this is
“splanchnon,” which literally means intestines. It is compassion you feel way down in your gut. It is the word Jesus used to describe the response of the father to the prodigal son. It is the word used to describe Jesus’ feeling toward shepherdless sheep like us. God wants you to care deeply for others like he cares for you.
Live the Word Write Colossians 3:12 on a card and place it somewhere you will see it often this week. Ask God to help you clothe yourself with traits appropriate for your status as his child.
