Listen to the Word

I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more.  (Isaiah 43:25)

We would expect God to remember our past sins. After all, he knows everything. There is no limit to his knowledge. On top of that, he is 100% holy. Sin stands in such stark contrast to his perfection that we would expect it to stick in his memory. Furthermore, sin is a slap in his face. Each time we sin, we are declaring a coup against his loving leadership and putting ourselves in charge. We would think God would remember sin clearly. He certainly has the ability and the right to remember it and rub our noses in it. But he chooses to forget.

When you confess your sin to God, he forgets. He deletes the file. He shreds the documents. He erases the board. He remembers your sins no more!

Live the Word

Read Isaiah 44:22 and meditate for a moment on that additional assurance of God’s desire to forgive.
