Listen to the Word
For this reason he had to be made like them, fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people. Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted. (Hebrews 2:17-18)
Perhaps the most amazing doctrine in Christianity is the Incarnation. It seems impossible – that God so passionately loves us that he became one of us. The One who made the world entered the world. The Creator became a creature. The Word became flesh.
We would expect God to be above that – much too dignified to get down into the grit and grime of the world. But that is exactly where we find him! God surprises us by loving us enough to get his hands dirty. He shows up in the most unlikely place, in the most unlikely way. Jesus enters the world through a mom he created, and is placed in a manger made of wood from a tree he designed.
God born. “Fully human in every way.” Wow!
Live the Word
Tell Jesus “thanks” for stooping that far for you.
