Listen to the Word
In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. (Hebrews 1:1-3a)
Our Scripture gives Christ credit for the fact that the universe is running. It says he is “sustaining all things by his powerful word.” Gravity works because of him. The earth revolves around the sun and we enjoy the rhythm of day and night because Jesus enables it to happen. Not only is he the “heir of all things” who will own the universe at the end of everything, and not only is he the creator who got it all started at the beginning of everything – he is currently the chief operating officer of the universe, managing the whole thing. That baby held by Mary is the one who holds all things together. He sustains it “by his powerful word.” Just as he spoke it all into existence, he keeps it going by continuing to speak. The universe keeps going because Jesus says so. He is the one who sustains all things.
Live the Word
Take a look out the nearest window. Tell Jesus thanks for the little miracles you see.
