Listen to the Word
Then Jesus told Thomas, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
(John 20:29)
Jesus’ disciples gathered on Sunday after he died, and Jesus showed up in the room with them, alive and well. Thomas was playing hooky that day, and he missed the whole thing. When they told him about it, he said they were crazy, and that he would never be convinced that it was really Jesus unless he could see for himself. The next Sunday, the disciples got together again, and this time Thomas was smart enough to show up. He saw Jesus, nailprints and all, and his doubt disappeared for good.
We tend to think folks like Thomas, who saw the risen Jesus with their own eyes, are the lucky ones. But Jesus told Thomas that it is folks like us who are the truly fortunate ones - folks who have the opportunity to trust without visible proof. Jesus said, “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
Live the Word
Ask Jesus to deepen your confidence in the reality of his resurrection, with or without visible proof.
