Listen to the Word

So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him. (Matthew 24:44)

We celebrate the coming of Jesus at Christmas every year. Every year we can prepare, knowing that the celebration will take place on December 25. The timing doesn’t surprise us. We can mark our calendars and know exactly when we have to be ready.

Jesus told us that he would be coming back. And for that second arrival, we won’t know which date to circle. God could have given us those details, but I think he knew that if he did so, we would procrastinate on our preparation. He wants us to live in a perpetual state of readiness. He wants us to live each day as if it could be the day that history is transformed by the return of Christ.

Here’s what you need to know: Jesus is returning, and you can’t predict when that will take place. So here’s what you need to do: be ready today.

Live the Word

Tell God thanks for being in control of the unfolding of the future. Ask him to help you to live in a state of readiness.
