Listen to the Word
I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades. (Revelation 1:18)
Because of Jesus, death is a defeated enemy. He died a brutal death, but he rose from the grave. He triumphed as the deathslayer.
At the end of the book of Revelation, we see a picture of the new creation God is preparing – our ultimate future as followers of Christ. It says, “There will be no more death” (Revelation 21:4). It says that death itself will be thrown into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:14). Death still makes a lot of noise and it can be pretty scary sometimes, but by rising from the dead Jesus put death on notice. Death is a defeated enemy.
Live the Word
Do you know someone who is near death? Spend a moment praying for that person, asking Jesus to give them the reassurance that comes from knowing that he has already defeated death for us.
