Listen to the Word
And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.” (Luke 22:19)
Jesus, who perfectly discloses the heart of God the Father, is the most generous giver who ever breathed the atmosphere of the earth. He gave food to hungry stomachs. He gave sight to blind eyes. He gave purity to leprous skin and motion to paralyzed limbs. He gave hope to hurting hearts. But he gave more. Every time we eat the Lord’s Supper, we remember that Jesus even gave his body for us. He presented his back to endure our scourging. He offered his head to accept our crown of thorns. He stretched out his hands to receive our nails. He went to our cross and died our death. His body was given for us.
Live the Word
Picture in your mind Jesus on the cross, and meditate on that picture for a moment. Imagine him speaking to you, saying, “This is my body, given for you.”
