Listen to the Word

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  (John 3:16)

Hopefully you will get to do some giving and receiving of gifts this week. There may be some presents under the tree with your name on them. And there may be others with your name on the “from” line that will bring a smile to someone you love. We couldn’t imagine Christmas without gifts.

Sometimes we give the wise men credit for giving the first Christmas presents, and their gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh were certainly close to the beginning of the list. But God gave the first and best Christmas gift. He gave the Gift – with a capital G. The gift of Jesus. This week we will reflect on perhaps the most famous words in the Bible – the words of John 3:16. May God us them to speak to us in a fresh way this Christmas week about the gift that is at the heart of this holiday.

Live the Word

If you haven’t already memorized John 3:16, commit it to memory. Say it aloud at least once.
