Listen to the Word

Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? (Matthew 6:26)

Jesus urges us to notice birds (By the way, don’t you love that Jesus was so in tune with the world around him that he could find spiritual truth in everyday, common things?). Specifically, he wants us to notice that birds don’t get uptight about planting and reaping and storing. They don’t make many trips to the store or place a bunch of orders on Amazon. They don’t do all the stuff we do to try to take care of ourselves. And I’ve never heard about a bird with a migraine or an ulcer. The birds just assume God will feed them, and he does.

Jesus’ point is that we don’t need to worry. If God cares enough to provide for birds, he will certainly care for us. We are in good hands. Worry is not necessary.

Live the Word

Take a look out the nearest window. Spend a moment observing the slice of creation that you can see (bonus points if you see a bird or two), and ponder the great job God does taking care of it. Ask him to assure you that you can trust him to care for you, too.
