Listen to the Word

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”  (Romans 8:28)

God has a remarkable ability to work for good even in the worst of circumstances. Sometimes he intervenes in our circumstances to lighten our load. Sometimes he uses the heavy load to build our spiritual muscles. Sometimes he uses our experience of carrying the load to prepare us to help others with their burdens in the future.

If you look back on your life and try to identify some of the time periods in which you experienced the most growth in your relationship with God, you may see that some of the biggest leaps came in seasons of pain. Perhaps there was a disaster that led to growth in discipleship, or a family crisis that produced a new level of family closeness.

God is never defeated by our circumstances. He is always at work for our good.
