Listen to the Word
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. (Matthew 11:28-29)
Jesus gives three commands along with his remarkable promise of rest. These commands mark the path toward experiencing the relief he wants to give. The first command is simply, “Come to me.”
The key to handling your stressed-out life is not to come to bed, or to come to vacation, or to come to a time management class, or to come to retirement. The key is not to come to religion, or to church, or to the Bible. Jesus says, “Come to ME.” Only he can provide true rest. Rest and relief are gifts at the disposal of Jesus. He calls you not only to give him your heart, but to give him your burdens and your baggage. Bring it all to him, and he will give you rest.
Live the Word
Tell Jesus that you want to spend this day with him. Ask him to give you the rest that he promises to those who come to him.
