Listen to the Word

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.  (Philippians 4:6-7)

Our Scripture says that when we pray, God’s mindblowing peace will stand guard over our hearts and minds. It is ironic that the passage uses a military metaphor to describe God’s peace. God’s peace is like a soldier on watch, standing guard over you. When worry approaches, God’s peace says, “Who goes there,” points a weapon, and tells worry to get lost.

We tend to look for stuff to worry about, and we are good at it. We can find sources for anxiety in every direction. But God’s peace is on watch duty, so you don’t have to be anxiously scanning the horizon for new threats. God’s peace has you covered. It is standing guard.

Live the Word

Spend a moment pondering the good news that God’s peace is standing sentry watch over you. Relax, confident that your Lord is on the lookout.
