Listen to the Word
Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. (2 Timothy 2:22)
It is not only important what we run from, and what we run after, but who we run with. Our Scripture calls us to flee from temptation and to pursue virtue in the company of prayerful, pure-hearted friends.
I’m sure you have observed that you tend to chase the same things your friends chase. When you are surrounded by people doing the wrong thing, you will be inclined to follow their bad example. But when you are surrounded by people who are doing right, their example inspires you toward your best. It is easier to flee from evil desires if you are fleeing in a pack. And it is easier to pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace if you are doing it with others who are chasing the same things.
Live the Word
Think of someone in your world who is a positive influence on you. Write that person a note, give them a call, or take some other concrete step to nourish your relationship with that person.
