Listen to the Word
The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing. (Zephaniah 3:17)
So far this week we have seen God pictured as Father, Shepherd, King, and Fortress. The final image may be the most surprising: Scripture describes God as a Singer. Zephaniah 3:17 paints a picture of God as a tender parent who holds a terrified child, singing an impromptu song to calm the child. You are the child, and God is singing over you! And notice what motivates his song: the verse says that he delights in you, and that his song is an act of rejoicing over you. God is pleased to have you as his child, and he is singing about it.
Live the Word
Now that you know that God is singing over you, why not return the favor? At your next available opportunity, sing to God of your delight in Him. Choose a hymn or worship song, or compose your own spontaneous solo.
