Listen to the Word
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. (Joshua 1:9)
Our Scripture mentions two different approaches to life: “strong and courageous” or “afraid and discouraged.” Which approach do you see when you look in the mirror? Many folks see option number two.
The Hebrew word for “afraid” describes a paralyzing fear that keeps us on the sidelines of life. “Discouraged” literally refers to an absence of courage, a courage vacuum, a complete lack of hope. These may be your words. When you look at your bank balance, or the TV news, or the brokenness around you and inside you, perhaps “terrified and discouraged” pretty much covers it.
It doesn’t have to be that way. God wants to be with you, and he wants to fill you with strength and courage.
Live the Word
Ask God to give you his courage as you face the challenges of this day.
