Listen to the Word
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:11-13)
It is wonderful to hear that God has a good plan for your life. We really want to know what that plan is. We would like to have a foolproof, simple method, guaranteed to reveal the will of God or your money back. But Jeremiah doesn’t offer that.
Our passage of Scripture for the week does not end the way we might expect. The passage is all about God’s good plans for us - how he knows those plans, and he wants us to pray to Him. We would expect the passage to end with something like, “You will seek my plans, and you will find them.” Instead, it says, “You will seek ME and find ME.” We are obsessed with knowing God’s plan. The bigger priority to God is that we know HIM.
Live the Word
Do you ever try to use God just to try to discover what his plans are? Confess that to Him, and ask him to help you seek him more than you seek his plans.
