Listen to the Word
People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. (1 Timothy 6:9-10)
A recent survey conducted by the University of Michigan asked people what one change would most improve their quality of life. The number one response was “more money.”
The Bible disagrees. This week’s Scripture uses some vivid images to describe the negative results of craving more money. It says your own desires will PLUNGE you into ruin and destruction. Grabbing for more money is like grabbing a boat anchor and hopping overboard. It says when you reach for more, you PIERCE yourself with many griefs - it is a picture of someone standing in front of a big thorn bush, jamming their hands in until the blood flows. Not real smart.
More money will not make you happy.
Live the Word
The world says money makes you happy. God says money is dangerous. Ask God to help you agree with him. Ask him to help you to believe that more money will not make you happy.
