Listen to the Word

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. (Joshua 1:9)

Who were some of your childhood heroes? The Lone Ranger was one of mine. No outlaw was ever a match for him. He would always save the day and leave folks wondering, “Who was that masked man?” Captain Kirk was another hero – boldly going where no man had gone before, with his phaser and his yellow polyester shirt – no Klingon too tough and no challenge too big. What grabbed me most about those two was their courage. Courage is what makes a hero a hero.

Could you use a little courage? Do you wrestle with fear? Are you afraid of failure? Of certain people? Of the future? Of the past coming back to bite you?

For the next two weeks, we will seek to find courage from God that is bigger than all of our fears.

Live the Word

Read Joshua 1:9 aloud, and imagine God speaking those words to you as a personal challenge and promise.
