Listen to the Word
Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. (1 Thessalonians 5:18)
We spend a lot of time wondering what God’s will is. What does he want me to do? We see from today’s Scripture that at least part of the answer is that God wants you to give thanks. And do you notice when you are to give thanks? This is the tough part: “in all circumstances.” It is easy to give thanks when the sun is shining and your team is winning and your family is being nice to you and you are having a good hair day. But God wants you to be thankful not just then, but all the time, in all circumstances. He wants you to thank him even when the clouds are rolling in and the bills are piling up and the traffic is crawling and your health is failing. He wants you to have such unshakable confidence in his goodness and strength that you know he is at work for good no matter what, so you can thank him no matter what.
Live the Word
What is the biggest source of anxiety in your current circumstances? Tell God thanks for the fact that that challenge cannot defeat his purposes for your life.
