Listen to the Word

I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more.  (Isaiah 43:25)

It is God’s very nature to forgive and forget. We may imagine him shaking his head as he listens to our prayers, saying, “Tough luck. You have already confessed that same sin forty-three times. You are over the limit.” But that score-keeping God is not the God of the Bible.

God introduces himself as the forgiving, forgetful God. He says, “I am he who blots out transgressions. I am he who forgets sins.” He is saying, “This is my specialty - it is what I do.” More than that, God is saying, “This is who I am. I am the God who blots out your sins. I do this for my own sake - it is consistent with my character. I am the Father who forgets your failures.”

God has a selective memory for your good. You live in light of his forgiving forgetfulness.

Live the Word

Read the words of Isaiah 43:25 aloud, and envision God speaking them personally to you.
