Listen to the Word

In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word.  (Hebrews 1:1-3a)

‘Tis the season for giving and getting and ho ho ho-ing and falalalala-ing. As we approach Christmas, may our focus fall on Christ, not on decorations and gifts, not on Frosty and Rudolph, not even on feasting and family. Let us not get so caught up in all that wrapping that we miss the Gift – the gift of a baby sent to save us all.

This week, we will take a look at some of the jaw-dropping things said about Jesus in the opening verses of the book of Hebrews. Bible scholars think these words are quoted from an early Christian hymn – a hymn of praise to Jesus, the supreme Son of God. Prepare to let this passage stretch you and expand your view of Christ.

Live the Word

Be on the lookout for nativity scenes today. Each time you see one, offer a prayer of praise to Jesus, the Son of God.
