Listen to the Word

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  (John 3:16)

God loves. God gives. He gives his one and only Son. With that gift comes the bonus gift of eternal life.

What’s our role in all this? Do we have to earn it? Is it one of those “you better watch out, you better not cry, you better not pout I’m telling you why” kind of things? No. Our role is to believe. To believe in him.

God wants you to be ready to say something like this: “God, I believe you really do love me. I believe you gave me an amazing gift – the gift of Jesus. I don’t deserve that gift, but I gratefully receive it. I receive Jesus as my Savior, recognizing that I can’t save myself. I receive him as my Lord, my boss, acknowledging that I’m tired of trying to run things on my own. I receive the eternal life you give me through him.”
