Listen to the Word
The LORD God Almighty, the LORD is his name. (Hosea 12:5)
This week’s Scripture focuses our attention on the name of God. In English, we read that “the LORD is his name.” The Hebrew rendered “LORD” is the name Yahweh. Any time you see “LORD” written with all capital letters in the Old Testament, you are reading a passage that calls God by this name (If you see “Lord” with the last three letters in lower case, you are generally looking at a passage with the Hebrew title Adonai, which means master or lord).
God shares his name with us because he wants us to know him personally. He does not desire that we merely admire him from afar – he wants an intimate relationship with us. He wants us to be familiar with him. He wants us to call him by name.
Live the Word
Pray that God will help you to know him better – not just to know more about him, but to know him more intimately.
