Listen to the Word

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. (James 1:5)

God invites us to ask for wisdom. One of the things that makes that tough is that we don’t like to admit that we aren’t smart enough to handle things on our own.

Maybe you think, “I can make my own decisions. I can figure out what is best for me. I can run my own show.” If so, I have a question for you: how is that working out for you? Do you consistently make the best choice? Do you always do the right thing? One of the wisest things you could do is to realize that you aren’t wise enough to handle life on your own, and to ask for help from the all-wise God of the universe.

You lack wisdom. So ask God.

Live the Word

Think of an area of your life in which you are not living with a lot of wisdom right now. Confess that to God, and ask for his help.
