Listen to the Word
The LORD God Almighty, the LORD is his name. (Hosea 12:5)
The divine name Yahweh (translated LORD in this week’s Scripture) is grammatically connected to the Hebrew version of the verb “to be.” His name tells us that God is the God who is. He cannot not be. He is. And he always has been. And he always will be. He is the “I AM,” and all other so-called gods are the “they ain’ts” (that may be poor grammar, but it is solid theology).
Everything else that exists has a cause. The big oak tree I see out my front window owes its existence to another oak tree that dropped an acorn a few decades back. The computer or phone on which you are reading these words was designed and assembled by some smart folks somewhere. But God doesn’t owe his existence to anyone or anything. He is uncaused. He simply is. He is Yahweh, the God who is.
Live the Word
Spend just a moment imagining the universe without God. Then praise him for the fact that he is.
