Listen to the Word

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.    (Philippians 4:6)

God invites us to present our requests to him. That is a huge blessing – he wants us to share our wants and needs with him and ask him to take care of us. But notice that he wants something to come along with those requests. Our Scripture says that our requests are to be presented “with thanksgiving.”

Presenting your requests to God should not be all “gimme gimme gimme.” We should make our requests alongside expressions of gratitude for all that God has already given. Every time we ask God to do something, we should be grateful that he is the kind of God who longs to hear and answer prayer. “With thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

Live the Word

Make an effort to include at least one “thank you” along with every request you lift to God in prayer today.
