Listen to the Word

Love... does not boast, it is not proud. (1 Corinthians 13:4)

Pride and love are 180 degrees from one another. Pride says, “I really am somebody special!” Love says, “YOU really are somebody special!” Pride causes me to focus on myself; love requires that I put myself aside and focus on the needs of others.

Ironically, we often do “loving” deeds as an attempt to feed our pride. We give a gift or offer a service, but what motivates us is a desire for applause from others. We do a good thing for someone else so we will get credit for it. But real love is not concerned with getting credit, because real love is not proud.

Live the Word

Do something kind and loving today, but keep it anonymous. Don’t allow anyone to give you credit for the good deed.
