Listen to the Word
In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. (Hebrews 1:1-3a)
Do you think the writer of Hebrews was impressed with Jesus? You couldn’t fit any more brain-stretching, awe-inspiring statements in a few verses. The writer tells us that Jesus is more. No matter how highly you think of him, you underestimate him!
That baby in an animals’ feeding trough is the exalted Son of God. He is completely helpless, yet strong enough to fling galaxies into place. He is unable to speak, yet he’s the inventor of language. He is brand new, yet he’s older than eternity. He is utterly dependent on the care of his earthly parents, yet he’s the caretaker of the cosmos. He fits snugly in Mary’s arms, yet he is bigger than a thousand universes.
What a Savior! Jesus is fully God.
Live the Word
Choose a phrase describing Jesus from this week’s Scripture, and write it down. Read it and reflect on it several times throughout the day.
