Listen to the Word

Honor your father and mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.  (Exodus 20:12)

Honoring our parents is a matter of attitude and a matter of action. It involves how we feel about them and what we do. It is an attitude of respect and love, but that attitude shows up in actions: sending a card or letter, being patient with them on the phone, asking their advice, bragging on them, spending time with them for no reason, saying “I love you” or “thanks,” doing something they taught you.

You evaluate how much you honor your parents by how you feel about them. They evaluate how much you honor them by what you do. Both are crucial. Honor your father and mother in attitude and in action.
