Listen to the Word
People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. (1 Timothy 6:9-10)
One of the world’s favorite fast food chains sells what they call “Happy Meals.” That is brilliant marketing. They aren’t selling food - they are selling happiness. They say that all your kids have to do to be happy is to buy a little box with a cheap toy and a mass-produced burger. But it doesn’t work. Within a few minutes, the burger is gone, the toy is lost or broken, and happiness is nowhere to be found.
But we adults know better, right? Only a kid would be foolish enough to believe that a purchase could ever bring lasting contentment. Or maybe not. Maybe when we get older, we don’t get smarter - our Happy Meals just get more expensive.
Live the Word
As you go through your day, pay attention to the traps our culture sets to try to convince you that you need more. Notice the online ads, billboards, mailings, commercials, etc. - and refuse to take the bait.
