Listen to the Word
“Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.” (Galatians 5:25)
When you are about to drive somewhere you have never been, there are a couple of nice technological tools that can help you get there. You can use Google Maps or a similar website and print off directions. Before you even start the trip, you can know exactly how many miles the trip will be, exactly where each of the turns are, and all of the important details of the trip. Or, you can plug the address of your destination into a GPS. The GPS determines the best route, but it only reveals the instructions to you one step at a time. Instead of telling you in advance every turn you will need to make, it just tells you about the next turn (“in 2 miles, turn left”). Then after you make that turn, it will tell you what the next turn is.
The Holy Spirit’s guidance in our lives tends to be more like the GPS than the online map. As much as we would love to know in advance the next 200 turns we will have to make, he generally doesn’t give us that information. He tells us about the next turn. And once we get there, he tells us about the next one. Following him is a turn by turn, step by step process.
Live the Word
Ask God to help you walk with him today, and ask him to help you let him worry about tomorrow and beyond.
