Listen to the Word
“Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.” (Galatians 5:25)
Sometimes we assume that following the Holy Spirit means answering the call to do big heroic things, like moving to Africa or giving away our car. And sometimes he does call us to make a big leap like that. But keeping in step with the Spirit more often means listening to him and following him in everyday moments.
You can listen to the Holy Spirit as you stand in line at the grocery store. Maybe he will prompt you to notice the elderly lady in front of you, and perhaps pray for her or start a conversation with her. You can listen to the Holy Spirit while preparing the family budget and ask for his help allocating resources. You can listen to the Holy Spirit as you eat dinner with your family, knowing that you need the Spirit’s help to love them well.
Follow where the Spirit leads. Walk in step with him every day.
Live the Word
Today, practice listening for the Spirit’s guidance in the small, everyday matters of life.
